An elegant Italian Grand Tour 19th or early 20th century neo-classical center table base. Having monopodium tri-pod carved carrara marble base with each leg having an intricately carved lion head, mane, acanthus leaf detail and bent legs terminate below in toed paws on a stepped plinth. Note that the top pictured is no longer available.

monopodium: A decorative support used on tables and chairs, consisting of the head and one leg of an animal, usually a lion. The monopodium was first seen in Roman furniture, and was revived by late 18th century neoclassical designers such as Thomas Hope.
