A monumental conservatory table composed of an 18th-century slab of Red Languedoc marble resting on a pair of 19th-century Italian marble pedestal bases carved with extraordinary virtuosity. The rams’-head supports are sculpted in the round, with lion masks and draped garlands of fruits and foliage in deep relief. Each base is carved on all four sides and terminates in hoofed feet.
The Red Languedoc marble, sourced from Louis XVI’s private quarry, shows rich veining and fossilization, with an ogee carved edge with rounded corners, setting a beautifully colored plane above the grand ram supports. An RT Facts Find.
