Early 20th century English elm garden bench with slatted back and seat beneath a carved inscription reading, “The Kiss of the Sun for Pardon / The Song of the Birds for Mirth / One is Nearer God’s Heart in a Garden / Than Anywhere Else on Earth.” Strong architectural form with a richly weathered teak surface throughout. Brass plaque affixed to the side notes the bench was made from timber taken from H.M.S. Collingwood, the Royal Navy battleship broken up at Blyth, Northumberland. An unusually poetic garden bench with a notable provenance. In very good antique condition; some surface wear consistent with age but sturdy and ready for indoor or outdoor use. An RT Facts find.
