A rare, 19th-century cast zinc stag the by J.W. Fiske & Company, New York. In very good antique condition. There is evidence of repair of the breast (see photo 10). There is a J.W. Fiske New York makers mark stamped of the front of the base.
Joseph Winn Fiske established the company J. W. Fiske Ironworks in New York in 1858. Considered one of the most important foundries in the USA, it was based at various addresses around New York City and made all varieties of ornamental ironwork throughout its prolific production which ceased in 1933.
