A 19th Century scagliola columnar pedestal in good antique condition. The top has a swiveling mechanism (see photos) that works very well. There is a chunk missing from the base, and a repair in the top, but the pedestal is in otherwise good condition.Perfect for sculpture display. An RT Facts find.
Scagliola is a decorative technique that imitates marble and other stone using plaster mixed with pigments and glue. It was developed in Italy in the 17th century as a more affordable alternative to hard-stone, and was popular during the Grand Tour era.
