An English lead cistern of rectangular form, the exterior richly decorated in relief with classically inspired figures, grotesque masks, dolphins, scallop shells, floral rosettes and scrolling foliate ornament. One side bears the raised numerals “697.” Fitted with an old patinated bronze spout.

The surface retains a beautifully weathered, oxidized patina with extensive mineral deposits and traces of old surface coloration, giving the cistern considerable texture and depth.
