A monumental pair of antique recumbent Romanesque Rosa Verona marble lionesses. One lioness holds a lion cub and the other holds a lamb. 18th century or earlier. They are considerably larger than life. Wonderful detail in the mane and tail. The surface of Rosa Verona is a chalky pink when dry and becomes a deep marbleized sienna color when wet (last two photos). Country of origin, Italy.
