Impressive oversized carved mahogany mirror that was originally a retail display window or glass case from the turn of the century establishment of Prelle’s Hotel Oasis on the corner of Greenwhich and Debrosses in New York City.  William F.J. Prelle was a self made man from Germany who started a tobacco and cigar business which later expanded into liquors.  His cigar factory was located in Manchester, CT.

“The Oasis is a commodious salon, handsomely appointed with mahogany fixtures, marble floor, and all conveniences.  The place is under the management of Mr. Prelle’s son, Chas W. Prelle, a native New Yorker, and excellent business man, and popularly known in the community.” – A Souvenir of New York’s Liquor Interests, 1893.

This carved mahogany frame bears the original bronze plaque that reads “Nov 4, 1900 C.W. Prelle”
