A 19th century terra cotta urn from Impruneta, Tuscany, Italy. Impruneta terra cotta is very different from other types of terra cotta due to the chemical composition of the clay in that area and the manner of production developed over centuries to make it. Known for it’s high resistance to frost and warm color, it was the material of choice for Rennassaince artists and architects. Impruneta terra cotta was used for the roof tiles on the dome of the Duomo of Florence. This urn has been repaired, but retains it’s aesthetic appeal and historical value.
Urn: 33″H x 35.5″Diameter, mouth: 13″Diameter
