An antique Max Kohl electrostatic “Wimshurst” friction machine. Germany, circa late 19th century. Wimshurst machines function by converting mechanical energy into electrostatic potential energy using a pulley system and rotating discs. Glass, cast iron, mahogany, and brass composition. While the machine’s mechanics all function, it no longer produces electricity.
